Reading with Emily

I like reading books with my daughter, Emily (age 12). We've read books together for many years and it endures as a great shared pleasure. Some books work really well for us. The best we've ever read are the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. We have a nice hardback version that contains all seven books with the original illustrations in color. Very excellent reading with deep spiritual significance for Christians.

We have had a few books that were not really enjoyable. I'm still trying to decide whether they were worth the time and trouble to read. One of these was Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. It took a little more effort, but I think we were satisfied in the end. Another one, Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott, was so dissatisfying that we abandoned it part way through.

The times I've had reading with my children are treasured moments. I look forward to storing up more of that kind of treasure.
